Your files stay yours.

In short: Tern Files collects no data. No account, no telemetry, no ads, no cloud AI. This website sets no cookies and does not track visits.

The app

Settings, history, tags and the search index stay on your PC (installed: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tern Files). The AI runs locally; your files never leave the PC. The app only makes these connections:

The preview of HTML and SVG files loads nothing from the internet. Logs stay on your PC and are only shared if you send them yourself.

Purchase

In the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles payment and licence. With a direct purchase the licence key is checked offline; there is no online activation.

This website

The website is hosted by Vercel Inc. When you visit it, Vercel processes technically necessary data (e.g. IP address, time, page) to deliver it and to protect against abuse. Fonts and videos are served from this server; no third-party services are embedded, no cookies are set and visits are not analysed.
