Tabs like in your browser

• Ctrl+T opens a new tab, Ctrl+W closes the current one.
• Ctrl+Tab switches to the next tab; Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 jump straight to one.
• Ctrl+Enter opens the selected folder in a new tab.
• Drag a tab to change the order, or out of the window to give it a window of its own.

Tabs that come back

Tern Files saves your windows and tabs all the time, not only when you quit. After a restart, a crash, a power cut or a Windows update they come back – with both panes, the selection, sorting and the back and forward history of each tab. Ctrl+Shift+T reopens closed tabs, even after a restart. See Tabs come back.

Two panes side by side

Click Dual pane in the toolbar or press Ctrl+Shift+2. Tab switches between the panes, and the classic commander keys work:

• F5 copies the selection into the other pane, F6 moves it.
• F2 renames, F7 creates a folder, Del moves to the Recycle Bin.

Dragging from one pane to the other works too, and every copy lands in the history, so you can undo it. See Dual pane.

Workspaces for whole sets of tabs

A workspace is a saved set of tabs for one topic, such as a project, including two panes, sorting and columns. Ctrl+Alt+W opens the switcher. Tabs and two panes stay free after the 14-day trial; workspaces are part of Pro – yours stay in place, but switching between them then needs a licence. See Workspaces.
