Questions before you buy.

What happens after the 14 days?

Tern Files stays a complete file manager: tabs, two panes, search, preview, folder sizes and more keep working. The launcher, rules, duplicates, batch rename, compare and the AI need Pro. Your rules are kept and run again as soon as you have a licence.

Does the AI cost extra?

No. The model runs on your PC, so there are no running costs – for you or for us. It is an optional one-time download of about 3.4 GB (with a graphics card) or 4.9 GB (processor only).

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Tern Files has no telemetry and no cloud features. The only connections are the optional model download, the update check of the direct version (can be switched off) and the Microsoft Store licence – see the privacy page.

On how many PCs can I use it?

One licence is for you on up to 3 PCs, with all 1.x updates.

Can Tern Files replace File Explorer?

Yes. The direct version can become the default file manager: folders, Win+E and “Open folder” then open in Tern Files (“Show in folder” in other apps is not asked by Windows – with “Take over Explorer windows” those folders come to Tern Files as well). One switch in the settings brings Explorer back, and an emergency file restores it even without the app.
